Speedbump Fest returns to Akron’s Musica (51 E. Market Street) on Saturday, Oct. 11 for its tenth anniversary, and with it comes a very special guest: The Briefs, the punk rock quartet that taught us that being poor and weird ain’t so bad. They’ll grace the stage alongside Ohio locals The Robert Conn Band, HAMS, and Hell is Here. Seeing The Briefs play stateside is a true rarity these days as members are split between America and Europe. It’s been three long years since The Briefs appeared in Ohio, and The Last Letter Project Foundation is beyond stoked to host them in Akron during their 25th year.
Presale tickets are available on Eventbrite for $25.
For 25 years, The Briefs have been releasing snotty, 70’s-styled punk that draws inspiration from DEVO, Thrasher Magazine, and Dangerhouse Records. Their reign as Kings of the Weird began in Seattle in 2000 with the release of their full length “Hit After Hit,” a syringe full of adrenaline delivered straight to the heart. What followed was an onslaught of similarly energetic, irreverent punk rock that pairs well with youthful indiscretion and hilarious mistakes. In 2025, The Briefs released a new 7” called Hospital Elevator, continuing their peroxide stained legacy.
The Robert Conn band is a 5 piece from Cleveland/Akron, Ohio. Robert Conn was one of the founders of the Pagans and Defnics. CW on rhythm guitar played in Berzerker. Jimmy Beautiful was the singer in Ellen Degenerate, The Ruminators, and Nunfight. Jon on bass also plays in Hellkite. This band is relatively new but definitely worth checking out!
HAMS — self-described as “Cleveland’s own Rock & Roll murder pigs” — have no shortage of riffs in their bag of tricks, and they’ll use every one to melt your face off.
Hailing from Columbus, Hell is Here’s unpretentious crusty hardcore stylings will careen through your brain, driving you into the pit and leave you begging for more.
DJ Matt Feeney will be spinning records in between sets. Feeney spent years lending his turntable expertise to the now-defunct Akron dive bar Annabell’s for its weekly Punk Night.
See you at the show!
